There is a lot of difference in the Southwest Airlines policy as compared to the other Airlines like Delta, American, etc. It is cheaper to fly with Southwest than with other carriers. There are differences in the age needed and the route to be taken if your child travels under Southwest Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Policy. Let’s scroll down to learn about SW policy, its fees, and how you can book it.

What is the Southwest Airlines unaccompanied minor policy?

Children under the age of 12 must fly as Southwest Airlines unaccompanied minors if they are not accompanied by an adult (UMs).
Although there is a “young traveler” regulation for children between the ages of 12 and 17, those over 12 must travel independently and can’t travel as UMs.

Note: This is distinct from certain other significant airlines, such as Delta and American, who have placed the maximum age for unaccompanied minors at 14.

What Fees Does the Southwest Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Charge?

The unaccompanied minor fee on Southwest Airlines costs $50 each way (or $100 roundtrip). In addition, there is the cost of each child’s airfare. Hence, the total cost would be $220 if you were flying an unaccompanied kid roundtrip and the airfare was $120.
Compared to what legacy carriers charge, this price is far less. For instance, both Delta and American charge $150 each way, so choosing Southwest for a roundtrip ticket will save you a few hundred dollars.
